The SRWP was a key component of the Queensland Government’s $90 billion water grid ̶ a series of projects fast tracked to counter the threat of the worst drought in the State’s history and secure a reliable water future for south-east Queensland. Construction of the water grid became the Queensland Government’s highest profile infrastructure project in 2007 and 2008.
Between January 2006 and January 2009 the SRWPA delivered three projects ̶ Southern Regional Water Pipeline (SRWP), Northern Pipeline Interconnector (NPI) and Eastern Pipeline Interconnector (EPI). The challenge was to deliver in less than two years a series of projects that would in a normal construction timeframe take five.
