As the 2011/12 Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) Ian Robertson Award recipient I started the year on a high, representing the Australian public relations industry on a three-week study tour to New York City in January.
I was fortunate to spend time with some of New York’s leading communication agencies, including Rowland’s global associate Fleishman-Hillard, and completed a two-week internship with the American Australian Association working on the prestigious G’day USA New York Black Tie Gala.
Part of the G’Day USA New York team, I helped liaise with leading US and Australian organisations, including NAB, Qantas, Dow, Genworth, First Mac, News Corporation and Visy to promote global business partnerships and networks. I also had the opportunity to host key dignitaries, including Australia’s ambassador to the United States Kim Beasley and Australian Treasurer Wayne Swan.
During my once-in-a-lifetime experience in America, I gained valuable insights on the themes explored in my winning award application essay, ‘Navigating the global PR village’.
