The Hon John Mickel
Rowland’s Government and Public Affairs offering has been further strengthened with the appointment of senior ALP figure, the Hon John Mickel as Strategic Advisor.
Following a distinguished parliamentary career spanning 14 years, John’s experience, expertise and understanding of ALP policies and procedures bolsters Rowland’s Government and Public Affairs capability and provides our clients with a valuable opportunity to ensure engagement opportunities with the new state government are maximised.
A former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, John has also held ministerial roles in a number of high-profile portfolios including Energy, State Development, Environment, and Transport and Trade. He was also previously a senior policy advisor to the Goss government and the then-Opposition Leader, Peter Beattie.
He was integral in the establishment of Trade and Investment Queensland as a statutory body, based on the findings of his 2013 review. In the same year, John was appointed to the board of Queensland Rail, where he still maintains an active role in the organisation’s direction.
In addition to his work at Rowland, John also lectures at Queensland University of Technology in Political Science and is a regular political commentator on radio and television.
