“Homelessness is an immensely broad issue where the stereotypes people assign just do not exist. It is an issue that affects more than 100,000 Australians each night, including approximately 12,000 children under the age of 12. This is why I participate in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout.”
— Geoff Rodgers, Chairman, Rowland.
The Vinnies CEO Sleepout, which celebrates its fifth anniversary this year, is the premiere opportunity for Brisbane’s business, government, and community leaders to show support for those less fortunate. Armed with nothing more than a sleeping bag, pillow, sheet of cardboard, and cup of soup, these leaders experience first-hand what it is like to be homeless.
Rowland Chairman Geoff Rodgers has participated in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout since 2011. In this time he has raised in excess of $113,000, with all funds committed towards addressing the issue of homelessness in Queensland.
The St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) works to not only solve the immediate distress of people in crisis, but to find long-term solutions and provide support to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness. Vinnies is committed to providing a ‘hand up, not just a hand out’ to anyone in crisis.
The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is an important event in Rowland’s calendar. Not only will Geoff be participating for a fourth year, but as a Queensland partner, Rowland will once again be providing professional assistance with communication, promotion, and participant recruitment.
This year, the Vinnies CEO Sleepout will take place on Thursday 19 June 2014 at The Courier-Mail Piazza, South Bank.
